Travis County currently runs SAP ERP for most HR (including on-premise HCM and SuccessFactors Learning and P&G), financial, and procurement processes. Over the coming years, the County plans to migrate the current environment to SAP’s next generation of business solutions (S/4HANA, Ariba, SuccessFactors).
The first phase migrating core human resource to SuccessFactors Employee Central and Enterprise Portal to Build Work Zone has already begun. We are seeking a talented Payroll Business Analyst to join our team and play a crucial role in support our existing systems and processes as well as the future landscape.
Position Summary
This position works closely with HR, Time and Payroll business process owners to contribute to new developments and improvements to our existing SAP HCM system, as well as provide on-going production support. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements, configure solutions, and ensure seamless integration with existing systems.

This full-time position is part of the SAP Support Team within the County Auditor’s Office. Travis County is a $1 billion local government organization with approximately 6,000 employees. Duties and Responsibilities
What you will do
- Collaborate with HR, Time and Payroll stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into functional specifications.
- Perform custom payroll configuration to align with business processes and best practices. Including updates to payroll schemas, rules, features, etc.
- Create and maintain work schedules, holiday calendars, time types, and leave quotas.
- Conduct system end to end testing of fixes/enhancements (including year-end or upgrade testing), create/maintain test scripts and documentation.
- Continuously assess payroll processes, identifying opportunities for system enhancements, automation, and process improvements to boost efficiency and reduce errors.
- Provide production end-user support.
- Perform problem analysis and issue resolution.
- Conduct end-user training and create/maintain knowledge base reference documentation.
- Work closely with other SAP teams including Basis, Development, Security, etc.
Minimum Requirements
What you will need to bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Business Administration, Accounting or a business related field.
- A minimum of five years of relevant professional experience is required; however, a master’s degree or certification in a related field may be considered equivalent to two years of work experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Strong knowledge and experience with design, configuration and maintenance of all SAP payroll components including wage types, benefits integration, off-cycle activity, third-party remittance, financial postings, BSI Tax Factory, tax reporter and garnishments.
- Experience configuring payroll parameters, infotypes, and payroll schemas to meet business needs.
- Experience developing and maintaining custom payroll rules and workflows.
- Experience configuring time evaluation rules and workflows for time and attendance management.
- Experience with configuring cross-application time sheets (CATS), holiday calendars, time types, leave quotas, and work schedules.
- Overall general knowledge of payroll business processes including taxes, 941, W-2, etc.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills with the ability to identify root causes and recommend solutions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear and simple user instructions.
